This handsome publication contains 14 colour plates and 48 black and white illustrations. The paintings illustrated herein are from an exclusive collection displayed at the Kotah City Palace Museum as well as from the personal collection of Kotah Royal family. The Kotah School is famous for hunting scenes. The immense variety of foliage in the hunting scenes, amidst which the shikar is being played, has been identified with their botanical names. Apart from hunting scenes there are illustrations showing Nayak-Nayikas, Rukmini Parinaya, Madhu Malti and folk legends like Dhola-Maru. Paintings decorating the palaces have also been included in the book. The text relates to the historical background and the religious inclination of the Kotah rulers.
