When the Seven Party Alliance (SPA) in Nepal called for a four-day general strike against the Royal dictator in April 2006 nobody had imagined that the protest would turn out to be a historic mass movement in which millions of people would take to the streets and force the autocratic King kneel down before the same people whom he had been brutally crushing so far. Though lead by SPA, the ground for the massive participation had been prepared by the protracted People's War waged by the Nepalese people under the leadership of Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) with the aim of establishing a New Democratic Republic.
This book seeks to unravel the dynamics of the People's War and its mass-based support, which led to establishing People's Power in Nepal. It presents the glimpses of intellectual exercises of political leaders, which makes the turn of events after the King's power grab appear pre scripted. The book also throws some light on inner-party differences in CPN (Maoist) and their healthy way of resolving the same which further strengthened their bonding and enabled them to win the support of more and more people including of those who were critical of them.
As a consequence, the Nepalese People's Power culminated in the historic April Revolution aimed at bringing the 237 years old autocratic feudal Monarchy to an end and replacing it with a Democratic Republic.
