The Book covers the whole gamut of national existence. In the evolution of "National Strategy", government machinery, led by the politicians, is expected to analyse the geostrategic environment, geopolitical and geoeconomic compulsions and internal domestic environment of the country in the light of national values, national interests and national objectives. This has never been systematically evolved in India. Since National Sec Strategy India has displayed a lack of proper perspective and policy on security. mit
External security encompasses the global security environment, the posture of big powers, the security threats from neighbours, their military potential and spelling out their possible aims, under various contingencies, including subversion. Internal security encompasses the threats to internal political stability, secularism and homogeneity of social existence.
For evolving security strategy India needs appropriate structures, institutions and effective intelligence agencies. Reliable intelligence assessments also help evolve viable foreign policy and military strategy.
