Summary: As one travels through the different regions of India, one can see the people of each region describe their land as being distinct from the rest of the country in geography, life styles and customs. If someone from Kashmir talks eloquently about the snow capped mountains, the severe winter, the lakes and shikaras, and life in houseboats, someone from Rajasthan describes the desert life, the bright colours that greet the visitor everywhere, the heat and the problems of procuring water. Yet another from Kerala sings in praise of the ocean, the back waters, the coconut groves, the breeze filtering through the palm leaves and the beauty of the robust women of a matrilineal society.
