Summary: Today, looking back as the Syndicate Bank completes Fits sixty years, we feel proud that the Bank had a glorious past. Starting in a rural and humble setting, the Bank has traversed a long way to arrive on the national and international banking arena. Thanks to the dynamic and enlightened leadership provided by stalwarts like Dr. T. M. A. Pai and Mr. T. A. Pai, the Bank was able to adopt progressive policies and innovative programmes and become a harbinger of a model banking policy suitable to not only India, but also to all other developing countries. Humanism had all along been the hall-mark of the Syndicate's policies. The humane approach of its managerial style pervaded its management of personnel, and also its attitude towards its clientele. The management always encouraged an informal atmosphere within the Bank and introduced from time to time special schemes for promoting the allround welfare of the staff members in the area of education, health etc. The Syndicate Bank was the first to encourage the employment of ladies in the Bank on a large scale. The staff members also whole-heartedly responded and helped the Bank in creating a strong feeling among them all, of belonging to the great Syndicate family. There was a sense of belonging and a feeling of genuine dedication among the staff.
