Developmental dimension of domestic groups in India: an anthropological analysis of domestic groups, demography and economy of a tribe in central India

Summary: This contribution to the study of domestic groups is remarkable both for its attention to the variations among Korwa domestic groups and for its provision of a general model which makes those variations intelligible. Anthropologists and other social scientists have recognized for some time. that domestic groups assume different forms in the various stages of their cycles. This study of the Korwa goes beyond this, however, and shows how the coactivities which unite the members of these groups fragment and re-combine as these groups mature and expand in membership... It is shown that there is considerable variation in how Korwa domestic groups change through time... Author's analysis of the bases of these variations force us to recognize the important effects that demographic factors have on domestic groups... The study also breaks the new ground by providing a general model which provides a theoretical understanding of and can be used to project the percentages of Korwa domestic groups which will follow each of the developmental cycles.
