Between ethnography and fiction: Verrier Elwin and the tribal queston in India

Environmental Studies, Activity Book 1 comprises of 24 units which correspond closely to the key topics provided in the NCERT guidelines. Each unit contains 2 or 3 activities, graded from the simple to the more complex, dealing with various facets of the topic. 'Life Skills' involving problem solving and decision-making are an important part of each book, and are linked thematically with the topics. Special tasks have been included under the heading 'Things to do', 'Find out', 'Think about it', which extend the scope of the topic. The activities and task involve individual, pair and group work, encouraging co-operative learning. Notes given under the heading 'For the teacher' provide hints for the classroom discussions. The double-spread layout, humorous and interesting illustrations and large format to provide sufficient writing space make the activity books both accessible and attractive to young learners. A detailed syllabus-wise index is given at the end of each book.
