The Co-operation and conflict the two major social processes of human collective life and their operation on social, economic, political and religious levels are examined all through the work in both historical and modern perspectives. In addi tion, it narrates theories of minority relations formulated by eminent scholars and their impressions on Indian society. Finally, the work penetrates into the couses of communal disturbances which have taken serious turn after independence and also suggests some measures through which they can be resolved for the sake of unity and stability of the nation as a whole. It is hoped that this work will be of practi cal utility not only for academicians who hanker after knowledge but also for adminis trators who attempt to resolve them in order to restore peace in the society.
