Determinants of Agricultural Productivity : a sample study of operational holdings for land use planning

By: Material type: TextTextPublication details: Kurukshetra.; Vishal publications; 1986Description: 508 pSubject(s): DDC classification:
  • 338.1 JAS
Summary: The present study, based on forty two representative sample villages representing the predeter mined agricultural/cropping pattern regions of Haryana, treats of agricultural productivity as func tion of social factors, organisation of farm management, operational determinants of agriculture and its structural components as super imposed on the natural environ ment. The prodigious primary quantitative data on the agricul tural diagnostic parameters of relevance are based on extensive field surveys at 3,000 operational holdings located in about 142 villages which have been selected with stratified-systematic-random sampling technique. Moreover, statistical treatment of data has enabled formulation of and illumining geonomic relations governing the pattern of agricul tural productivity in general, and in Haryana in particular. An obvious corollary of this research has been the recognition of eight agricultural typologies; each differing from one another in terms of inherent agricultural properties defined by quantitative parameters. The measurement of degree of influence of determinants on agricultural productivity and identification of typologies, as in Haryana, will go a long way in formulating short and long term intelligent stratagies in exploitation and development of agricultural otential-that the work as a whole achieves and maintains this urge.
