Through 21 romantic short stories pin-pointed from various stages of college life, The Undergraduate Love/Stories' captures the changes in the feelings of an individual after being drawn toward someone. Also, since the book is an individual's journey toward finding oneself, I have added a commentary at the end to deal with the mental problems raised in the stories.
The purpose to include 21 stories is because it's the average age at the time we graduate. The stories are being narrated through 1st person, and the narrator is 21 years old, for whom graduation is a recent phenomenon. The use of 1st person, as well as the age of the narrator, invites the readers or listeners of the same age group to identify with him, at the same time, sympathizing with his feelings. An increase in a chapter in each section indicates a journey toward growing maturity.
Though an anthology, due to unities in time, place and action and a proper beginning, middle and the end in the collection of stories, it appears like a novel as if mirroring the college life and can be categorized as 'bildungsroman'. The language is reader's friendly, and the use of puns, wit, emotion in appropriate proportion, all inherent to college life. Some of the stories are adorned with nature's description and also touches on various social issues. The book as a whole is a journey of an individual who aspires to find a partner in the beginning and ends up in the quest to find himself portraying his psychological development.
