The principal aim of this book is to present the essentials of applied ecology to the planner and to show how they relate to the everyday activities of the planning depart ment.
A subsidiary aim is to introduce concerned applied scientists to the political and procedural world of planning.
The text examines, in the context of land use planning, the principles of ecology-liberally interpreted to embrace the energetics and dynam ics of both human and natural communities. The emphasis is on the framework which already exists within which to tackle environ mental problems in a comprehen sive rather than isolated fashion. It proposes solutions to the adminis trative difficulties of translation from theory to practice between the two disciplines in a way not previously covered in literature in these fields.
Ecology and Planning will serve as a useful primer for planners on physical environmental studies, en vironmental law and countryside management.
