The Adivasis constitute near about one tenth of the total population in India. But they are interspersed in the entire country in small groups. That is precisely the reason why they can't influence the policy decision(s) in the majoritarian democratic polity of India. After independence, the so-called structure of modern India has been crected with the plundering and uprooting of the Adivasis without any organized protest from them. Over the years, the Adivasis have become more and more vulnerable: their livelihood is at stake; they have been displaced from their natural habitat; their culture and identity is on the brink of extinction. In short, the tale of Adivasis is the tale of struggles for survival. This book depicts the plight of the Adivasis in India in minutest details. It recounts the present condition of Adivasis in a very candid fashion providing situational analysis and perspectives with vital statistical information.
