Summary: This book is intended to fill up the muchfelt gap in the sphere of literature on development banking viz. the absence of any book dealing exhaustively with the structure and problems of development banking in India. The financial and promotional roles of development banks in the economies of underdeveloped countries have been appropriately stressed and a great deal of light has been shed on some of the complicated issues involved. Against the background of the theory of financing of economic growth and the techniques and operational policies adopted by foreign development banks, the net-work of development finance institutions in the field of Indian industry has been ably studied and its contribution to the country's fixed capital formation during the plan period has been carefully assessed. In writing the book, the author has also drawn extensively on his experiences as an officer of the Industrial Development Bank of India, Bombay.
