Logic of culture: advances in structural theory and methods

By: Material type: TextTextPublication details: London; Tovistock; 1982Description: 296 pISBN:

Subject(s): DDC classification:
  • 306 ROS
Summary: The previous volume I edited on Levi-Strauss' structuralism (The Unconscious in Culture, Dutton:1974) dealt with interpretations and refinements of key structural notions, suggestions for more rigorous ethnographic applications, and evaluations of structuralism from the point of view of contrasting theoretical perspectives. Reviews published in professional journals have indicated that the volume has filled an important gap in the literature on structuralism. However, various contributors to that volume have pointed out issues still open and concepts in need of further clarification. Articles and volumes appearing after the publication of that volume have added new fuel to old controversies and brought forward new criticisms-some of which are ethnographic, others theoretical in nature. Hence the reason for this volume.
