Section I is further subdivided into three parts - Part 1 on 'Introduction', Part 2 on 'Agriculture' and Part 3 on 'Industry', Section II is sub-divided into four parts-Part 4 on 'Money and Banking', Part 5 on 'Public Finance', Part 6 on 'Foreign Trade' and Part 7 on 'Planning in India', The treatment is exhaustive and particular attention has been paid to 'analysis' rather than mere 'description' of facts. Within the framework of a textbook, the chapters on 'population problem', 'the problem of unemployment', 'productivity in agriculture", 'green revolution', 'industrial development in India', 'multinational corporations and FERA', 'objectives and strategy of planning in India', and a number of other chapters raise a number of issues that are generally glossed over in the traditional textbooks on Indian economy. The entire book is logically conceived and results of the studies of different scholars have been incorparated at various places in the book. A list of readings has been provided at the end of each part and the highlights of the readings mentioned. This should enhance the interest of the students and enable them to further pursue the discussion of topics of their interest, if they so desire.
