Summary: Adoption of diverse and dynamic strategies for integrated rural development has began effectively only after nationalisation of major commercial banks. The banks today are exclusively oriented towards rural economic activities. The credit decisions of the bank's management have to conform to the growth, to social justice and to the priorities of economic development. Specialised category of commercial banks called as RRBS have been inducted to look after the needy who have not been adequately covered by the commercial banks, like small farmers, marginal farmers, artisans, etc. Presently co-operative credit institutions, commercial banks, regional rural banks, farmers service societies, multi-purpose societies, specialised bank branches, along with district, state and national level apex bodies have been operating to meet the credit needs of rural areas. The involvement of network of these institutions has come to be known as the "Multi-Agency Approach to Rural Credit." The special feature of this book is that it covers all rural credit agencies. It also emphasises the role of RBI, ARDC, AFC, NABARD, etc. In this outstanding book the authors have ably discussed the structure of rural banking in India. This book is aimed to introduce the readers the vital aspects of credit agencies operating in rural areas. The present poineering and indepth study is the out come of the authors' wide thinking and pain staking survey.
