ONE of the major objectives of the development of agriculture in India is to bring about progressive reduction in regional inequalities in the pace of development and in the diffusion of technological benefits. The process of development in the backward regions should be upgraded while maintaining the progress of those areas which are relatively more developed. The diffusion of skill and technology in the less developed areas should bring about greater improvement in agricultural productivity. There is a marked difference in the agricultural productivity per hectare in most of the districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh compared with those of the Doab districts , but it is necessary to measure the agricultural productivity in the different parts of Uttar Pradesh, so that plans can be formulated to reduce regional imbalances.
