The present book deals with the N ā taka, typical form of Hindu drama which forms a large section of Sanskrit literature. The need of this book arose as there was not much material besides Bharat Muni’s Nātyaśāstra to deal with the art of producing a play developed in India. The study of history of the development of ancient Indian theatrical art is very important in many aspects. This book exclusively deals with treats of gesture in a manner different from Nātyaśāstra. An important feature of the text is a treatment of item like postures and movements etc. dependent on feet, such a Māndala, Sthānaka, Cāri and Gāti. All the essential gestures and postures used in Hindu dance and drama, has made this book a favorite of the student of these arts.
