Summary: The book is the first of its kind. The author critically examines the growth, pattern and spatial distribution of industries. As compared with Punjab, Haryana has shown a higher annual growth rate of capital, output and employment in the industrial sector during the period 1966-1978. As a result the gap in industrial development between the two states has narrowed down. The process of industrialization in Haryana has produced glaring inter-regional imbalances. Most of the industrial development in the State has taken place in the National Capital Region. The study, among other things, emphasizes the fact that industrialization and infrastruc ture tend to develop side by side and that despite the increase in the industrialized sector's share in the State's income, the dependence of the State's economy on agri culture has not lessened. The book is intended to be of great help in the matter of shaping the regional economic plans of most of the states of India. It will yield valuable informa tion to the policy-makers. It will also be of special interest to the students of economic development as well as researchers in the area of regional planning.
