The path of Indo-US relations has always remained bumpy whether in the past or present. Old and contemporary times are marked by a common feature and a common link. This common feature is sometime sweet and sametime sour relationship in both these periods. Indo-US relations were more uneven and unsmooth in strategic and political spheres than in economic and cultural affairs. Terrorism issue received same American attitude in initial stages but when US itself became victim of it, both countries became unanimous in countering the terrorism.
During the last few years terrorism issue, globalisation and liberalisation of trade and economic policies and better mutual understanding have resulted in tremendous change in American attitude towards India. This has resulted in mutual benefits for both the countries.
In addition to indepth analysis of various facts and aspects of Indo-US relations in Part-A of the volume, the book also makes exploration of various socio-political issues-American women's movement, women's status, status of Indian in American political process, lesbianism and feminism and US Supreme Court and federalism in Part-B. Thus, the book attempts at presentation of broad view on Indo-US relations and socio-political issues in both historical and contemporary contexts.
This comprehensive compilation of articles on Indo-US relations and socio-political issues, contributed by eminent authors, is of great importance to students, teachers, politicians, policy framers and general readers.
