Technology is a very important input in the industrial development of a country. Most developing countries aim at not only attaining higher technological capabilities but also some kind of technological self-reliance. Since Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) have helped greatly the setting up of industrial units and their growth in developing countries it is natural to ask if they have had any influence on the growth of technology in these assisted units. The question assumes importance because they have played an important role in the development of technology in the earlier stages of development of some of the present day developed countries. This book attempts to examine the DFIs' role in the technological development of Indian Industry. This is done through an examination of the records of DFIs interviews with important personnel in DFIs, key persons in the assisted units and persons in the Government of India connected with the growth of technology in India. The study suggests that while DFIs have contributed to the growth of technology the administrative structure in charge of the development of technology in India is such that they are not so keen on playing a more dynamic role.
