This book is a compilation of working papers that were pre sented and discussed at a seminar on Financing for Development jointly organized by the Faculty of Economics of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and the Public Bank Berhad of Malaysia, whose aim was to facilitate an exchange of ideas at the inter national level on issues directly related to the problems of finan cing for development. The authors are distinguished economist bankers and policy-makers from both Third World countries and the West. The various aspects of financing in developing countries and particularly in ASEAN-are identified and information on the roles of international finance, development banks and multi national companies in financing is given. The book is thus in tended to serve the needs of political leaders, bankers, indus trialists and others who are involved directly or indirectly in financing for development, as well as economics students in tertiary institutions where the need is for a balance between case analyses and readings and discussion of theory and research results.
