Summary: Why is this book entitled The National Economy? For two reasons - first, because the economic unit it deals with is the nation-state. It considers the economic activity taking place within and across the boundaries of a particular country, and does so by looking at the aggregate national figures. Unlike microeconomic theory, which con siders the behaviour of individual producers and individual consumers, the macroeconomic theory we shall be discussing considers 'all consumption by all consumers in the nation' the aggregate or total figure.
