Summary: In September 2018, India Foundation, New Delhi came together with Dept of Social Work, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Regional Campus, Manipur and Centre Manipur Studies, Manipur University to deliberate and discuss the cultural and religious transitions that have taken place in the last century in the north east region of India. A region that many trials and tho many one hand has seen and tribulations but on the other hand the resilience of its inhabitants has ensured preservation of their varied cultural and religious traditions. While studies have been carried out before the uniqueness of this conference laid in the fact that unlike other observations that have been made using the lens of the "other", the papers presented were made by scholars from the very own indigenous communities, that we were seeking to understand. The conference spanned over two days, in the historic DM College of Science's Central Hall and gave an opportunity to bring together the finest minds in the North East. The papers presented touched upon a many factors spanning areas related to farming, religion, traditions and rituals, education as well as insurgency amongst many others. The literature produced at the end of the conference has formed an important bulk of modern day understanding, tracing and evaluation of the impact of such changes.
