Constitution and what it means today

THIS is the Twelfth Edition of Mr. Corwin's classic handbook on con stitutional law. It covers the de cisions of the Supreme Court to the end of 1957 and therefore incor porates discussion of such recent de cisions as those of the Yates, Wat kins, and Jencks cases. The historic decision outlawing racial segrega tion in the public schools is re viewed in the light of such incidents as that which occurred at Little Rock, Arkansas.

The subject of Presidential disa bility and the Vice-President's duty and status in that eventuality are also considered.

This revised edition not only brings the material up-to-date, but incorporates additional discussion of prior Supreme Court decisions. In connection with such important subjects as judicial review, the commerce clause, executive power, the war power, national supremacy, freedom of speech, press, and reli gion, Mr. Corwin has accompanied the explanation of currently prevail ing doctrine and practice with a brief summary of historical develop ment. The former edition referred to about 1,000 decisions, the pres ent edition to over 1,300. The Constitution and What It Means Today has been translated into several languages and its influ ence has not been confined to this country. It continues to be the out standing commentary on the Con stitution, maintaining the unique place it has held throughout three decades.
