Dr. Sibnath Bhattacharya of 1/3, Sisir Kumar Dawn Road, Calcutta 700 036 is Ph.D. in Economics from University of Calcutta and is known as an authority in growth economics particularly in rural growth economics among scholars of the subject in India and abroad.
There are till date forty published research papers to his credit on the problems of rural growth economics in journals of international repute. A sound research guide, Dr. Bhat tacharya has produced seven doctorates and is guiding a number of research projects on rural growth economics. Dr. Bhattacharya, has produced sixteen books on growth economics in India and other developing countries.
His books have widely been acclaimed by dif ferent national and international experts in this field. Some of his books have been recom mended as text/reference books in some of the important universities in India.
Dr. Bhattacharya worked as a Faculty Member in Industrial Development at National Small Industry Extension Training Institute, Hyderabad engaged in research, development and consultancy at national and international levels during 1976-77. Dr. Bhattacharya has been in West Bengal education service for more than 30 years and had taught in different Government degree colleges in West Bengal. At present he is the Reader of Economics, Bid han Chandra Government College, Calcutta. Dr. Bhattacharya was also a Member of the Planning Committee in North Bengal where his active participation has enabled him to in tegrate his theoretical and practical ideas and thoughts in economics in general and rural economics in particular.
