Summary: India has basically been an agricultural country and it is likely to continue to be so for a long time to come unless some miracle happens at some stage. In spite of this the country has been unable to be assured of needed supplies of foodgrains and other agricul tural products. The country was almost written off as an impossi ble case in the middle of the 1960s. During the period of the last 15 years, however, it has been possible to achieve substantial pro gress and build up a buffer stock of few million tonnes of food grain. The in-depth analysis carried out recently about the progress and prospects of Indian Agriculture has shown what potentials exist. It is necessary to make everyone in the country aware of these potentials as also the tasks to be performed to realise these potentials for the good of the country in particular and the world in general. This process of communication is a countinuous one.
