The Indian Parliament, which is the supreme legislative institution of the country, occupies a pivotal position in our democratic polity. Since we adopted the Constitution in 1950, our Parliament has functioned as the grand inquest of the nation, encompassing into its fold a variety of roles to articulate the concerns and problems of the masses and reflecting their hopes and aspirations. In the process, Parliament of India has emerged as the true microcosm of the nation and its diverse people belonging to various ethnic, religious and linguistic groups.
That being so, it is only natural that the people of India should have adequate knowledge about the role and functions of our Parliament, how it works and what amenities and services are provided to the members of Parliament for effectively discharging their parliamentary duties. This publication, besides giving details about the varied activities of our Parliament, provides the readers glimpses of the Parliament building, the historic Central Hall, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha Chambers and the statues, portraits and paintings adorning the Parliament Complex. Aesthetically embellished with many photographs relating to all those aspects, this volume provides a panoramic view of the Parliament of India in all its dimensions. This publication will be of great value to all those who are interested in the day-to-day functioning of our Parliament.
