The purpose of this Essay is to set forth and reinterpret the Arab -Turkish relations in the nineteenth and the beginning of
the twentieth centuries and to describe the emergence of Arab nationalism. Those relations constitute a most important back-
ground to some of the contemporary political problems in the Arab Near East and to the awakening of Arab political conscious-
ness in this area. The work attempts also to remove certain fallacies and misconceptions concerning the relations between Arabs
and Turks and the genesis of Arab nationalism
