Summary: Child Behaviour is designed for the first under- graduate course in child psychology. We hope that it is textbook for all seasons; we know that it is not for all reasons. The field of child development has grown toward extensive and healthy diversity in the last decade. As textbook consumers, we have observed two categories of response to this diversity. One group of books surveys the field from a more or less eclectic perspective; cognitive development might be explained a la piaget social development a la Bandura, and so forth, with no regard for the resulting clash of assumptions.
