An important field in which little scientific guidance and practical experience are available today is that represented by wage policy regarding occupational minima. Occupational differentials, as Dr. Singh has rightly shown, are now based on conventions and conveniences rather than on skill, hazard and efficiency. No doubt the next step in India after the fixation of minimum wages should be the development of a ratienal scheme of wage differentials on an all-India basis by a Central body. Much thought should
be given in the future to the constitution of proper Wage Boards, region by region, State by State and also on an all-India basis for the development of uniform economic principles and for coordination. In fact the absence of such coordination today aggravates industrial unrest and disputes in several States and industries.
