This slim volume comprises five recent writings of Prof. Randhir Singh along with 'an autobiographical note' by him. These writings,
all topical, hold together remarkably well as exercises in Marxist theory and method. The three pieces on India, dealing with Punjab,Communalism, and 'India since Independence' , have a freshness of approach and quality of analysis which marks them as
exceptional in contemporary writing on Indian politics. Singularly free of the obscurantist academic jargon: typical of most scholarly discourse nowadays, these writings have the- author's customary economy of language, clarity of expression, and elegance of style. They are also characterised by a rare firmness of political commitment. These are indeed seminal writings in Marxist political analysis, indispensable reading for any meaningful understanding of Marxism as well as what is happening in India today
