and use studies are increasingly becoming important specially in advancing agriculture. Growing population is making exacting demands on land use and land now no longer be used in a laissez faire manner. Keen conflicts among different land use categories on one hand and efficient agricultural land utilization per capita, per unit of time and area on the other, are not only confined to the suburban lands but have also penetrated deep down the rural interiors. The present work is an humble attempt to peruse all these various aspects and influents of land use in the context of the then undivided Champaran district now bifurcated as Paschimi and Purbi Champaran districts.
The study area has remained an alluring pioneer fringe till seventies and as such its physical framework and population, which, inter alia, still remains the prime factor in land use studies at large, have been examined in detail. The pattern of land use dynamics and agricultural technology have helped peruse the agricultural regionalization for future planning. Sample study of seven villages occasions corroboration of statistical generalizations with the primary information.
