Summary: There is a dearth of readily available resource material for students enrolled in tourism courses. The economic aspects of tourism remain particularly neglected as an area of study. Reference material and information often lie scattered in Project-Reports or specialised journals about tourism and the travel trade. This book which is a response to the needs of students over the years is a step in reducing the paucity of study material for tourism enthusiasts. Since students of tourism both at the under-graduate and P.G. levels come from varied academic backgrounds (not necessarily with Economics base), this book begins with "Elements of Micro and Macro Economics". Chapter-II, provides an over view of the nature and extent of world tourism activities with India as a special focus. Chapter-III, discuses the Economic Aspects of tourism. In Chapter-IV, Tourism Demand, economic variables influencing tourism demand, charac teristics of tourism demand and forecasting demand are included.. Chapter-V, is a discussion of the current issues in international tourism. In Chapter-VI, the Environmental and Cultural Impacts of tourism on present day world economies are highlighted. Chapter VII, contains a detailed account of the Economics of passenger transport.
