The book presents a thorough and extensive account as well as an analysis, of the development of the various issues involved in "Operation Barga". It is the result of the author's decade long association with the implementation of Land Reforms at the Secretariat level and more so at the field level.
"Operation Barga", initiated in 1979 in West Bengal, has been a remarkably bold step in the direction of organising agriculture on modern lines.
The book opens with a brief history of the modes of production in agricultural practice. Thereafter, it takes a wise turn towards the 'Existing Law on Bargadars' and devolves itself into the design of the "Operation Barga". It then carries on with the launching programme of the "Operation 1, the estimating of the total number of the Bargadars in West Bengal, and the achievement of "Operation Barga" until June 1985.
