The Mohammadan conquest of India," writes Will Durant, "is probably the blood- iest story in history. It is a discouraging tale, for its evident moral is that civilisation is a precious thing, whose delicate complex of order and liberty, culture and peace may at any time be overthrown by barbarians invading from without or multiplying from within." Muslim behaviour remained true to type even after their rule disappeared. Sabre-rattling and street riots on the slightest pretext has been their standard method for imposing their separatist demands or preventing the majority from promoting national integration. Having succeeded in forcing the majority to concede Pakistan, they have continued to practice this method. Recent riots staged against the Shila Puja processions of the
VHP and the current terrorism in Kashmir are the latest examples. Pretending to be a "persecuted and frightened minority," uslims have wrested one concession after another from politicians who swear by what passes for secularism in this country. ademicians,
the media and the political parties are mortally afraid of questioning whatever demand the Islamic fundamentalists make from time to time. The charge of "Hindu communalism" which Muslims hurl at everyone who resists their aggression has become the bugbear for all those who aspire to be known as secularists, socialists and progressives. On the other hand, the same people have raised the smokescreen of "Hindu fundamentalism" in order to camouflage their sponsorship of Muslim militancy.
