In 1758 Robert Dingley, F.R.S.,published a pamphlet entitled 'Proposals for Establishing a Public Place of Reception for Penitent Prostitutes'. Five months later Magdalen House opened its doors for the first time, admitting seven young woman who were the forerunners of over 20,000 women and girls who have found their way into the Magdalen Hospital since its inception. A new chapter began in May 1944, when the Magdalen became the classifying School for Approved School' will shortly be abolished, and the new title of 'Community Homes' is proposed.
