Summary: The genesis of this book could be traced to our disinclina tion to discuss public affairs as integral parts of our over-all national strategy of defence and development. The cavalier manner in which certain political parties were found discussing Bofors' howitzers and West German submarines as though it were a sack of potatoes we bought from a corrupt market, left me in no doubt that such parties being in no way seriously involved in the enunciation of nationally accepted policies were being merely light-hearted as always. The Opposition was unhinged, and its oddities came to the Press as a veritable goldmine.
