Economic foundations of Islam

By: Material type: TextTextPublication details: Bombay; Orient Longmans; 1964Description: 203pSubject(s): DDC classification:
  • 297 Ali
Summary: This study may be considered as Economic Foundations of Humanism, for Humanism and Islam are interchangeable. However, during the past centuries Islam has been studied by eminent scholars, but, few seem to have restrained their feelings. Another group, not even remotely acquainted with Islam, has freely dragged the subject, if only to accuse it of crimes never committed. So, this acknowledgement of indebtedness clearly shows that the days of independence are gone, so are the days of nationalism and sovereign states, as will be seen in these pages. Life is interdependence. I would be amply re warded if this study can, in some small way, contribute to our accepting this fact, and appreciating our responsibilities and obligations more sincerely. This unfortunate drift along the path of physical and moral destruction has to end, otherwise social and economic well-being would continue to remain in jeopardy. The weakening of human bonds, the fading of purposes, and the tragic behaviour of sovereign powers must stop in the interest of civilised living.
