Scientific literature on migration and urbanization is very scanty in India. This book fills this gap by exploring some aspects of the linkage between the theories of migration and urbanization.
The book provides a new theoretical framework, arising out of a critical evaluation of the available concepts in the field for studying the immigrants in the Indian cities. The research is formulated in the framework of simulation of culture patterns in the context of urban pluralism. Accordingly, this study considers the various associations the immigrants have formed, the nature of their participation in these and the process of their adjustment. The inter-relationship of diverse factors affecting the immigrant adjustment has been worked out. The analytical value of this contribution is significant in understanding the problem of migration and urbanization.
In .this book, the relevance of concepts like assimilation and absorption forwarded by the Western models of immigrant adjustment is critically evaluated and empirically tested. The patterns of integration of the immigrant community into the plural urban society is also worked out in detail.
