Summary: THE present monograph Urbanisation and Urban Centres under the Great Mughals is a part of my project undertaken at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Simla. The other part consisting mainly of Urban Industries and their various aspects during the Mughal ascendancy is to follow. In point of area this monograph, though dealing with the imperial dominion, excludes the Hindustani region, that is the area lying in between Lahore and Patna, as it has been covered in my earlier work Urban Centres and Industries in Upper India 1556-1803, published by the Asia Publishing House, Bombay, 1968; London, 1969.
