Information in support of population activities

By: Material type: TextTextPublication details: UNESCO; Paris; 1974Description: 78pSubject(s): DDC classification:
  • 304.6 UNE
Summary: During World Population Year UNESCO aims to encourage the formulation of population policies, based on studies and research, which will ensure full respect for human rights, cultural integrity and national sovereignty, while helping the individual to make responsible choices. Clearly these objectives cannot be attained unless there is a much greater knowledge and awareness of population questions than is now the case. UNESCO has therefore initiated a programme for the development of population information centres and coordinated population information systems that will meet the requirements of users of information at all levels in this vital field. This special booklet has been published to commemorate World Population Year. It is intended to draw attention to existing facilities in the area of population information and to foster discussion of some of the questions, pertaining to education, science and culture, which are of importance in this new field of UNESCO's endeavours.
