Theories of peace and security: a reader in contemporary strategic thought

This book considers the role of military force in international politics and outlines the most important contemporary theories of how it may be manipulated to promote a peaceful and secure world. The book concentrates on current strategic ideas rather than policies. It represents an original and coherent organisation of the material which is scattered in specialised literature, often inaccessible to the student. The book is divided into six parts covering the key concepts in the field-Deterrence, Disarmament, Arms Control and Limited War. The student is thus given the minimum intellectual capital required to understand strategic problems. Many of the contributors are the most eminent thinkers in the field and some of the articles are already classics.
