The economic reforms that began in India in 1991 heralded a major change in economic conditions in India that have affected its whole social fabric and changed the entire way in which its economy performs. At first, these reforms were limited to the macroeconomic sphere but later they spread to the microeconomic or industrial structure of the Indian Economy. The full extent and consequences of these reforms are not as yet widely appreciated. In fact every facet of Indian socio-economic structure is being affected through all pervasive economic reforms.
About forty eminent scholars from various backgrounds have contributed in this book. The book is divided into two volumes and three parts. Volume one has Part A, which has Economy, Banking, Finance, Fiscal Reforms, IT, Power Sector Reforms, Agricultural Reforms etc. as its central theme.
Volume Two is composed of Part B and Part C. Part B has Labour, Poverty Alleviation, Employment, Sustainable Development, Community Welfare etc. as its central theme. And the last Part C, has papers on Trade, WTO, IPR etc. The coverage of this book is quite comprehensive. It concentrates on the most recent economic reforms; those since 1999. These are the least well known as well as the ones that call for the greatest attention. Infact the learned contributors have touched every conceivable field related with economic reforms in India with great zeal.
This book will be extremely useful to all who want to bring themselves up-to-date with India's most recent economic reforms and their consequences.
