The present study has emerged from the mood to evolve a rational plan of credit expansion and deposit mobilisation for binke in the context of their new role under the Load Bank Schema'. Preparation of such a plan han to take into account not only the prevailing situation of a district but also the development potential visualisod in near future.
The study has been carried out, under the sponsorship of State Bank of India, in four selected lead districto, viz., Vidicha, Sambalpur, Korgut and Visakhapatnam of which the first one is a lead district of State Bank of Indore and the rest belong to State Bank of Indda. These districts have been selected because of their different socio-economic and physical characters tics and it is expected that the results obtained therefrom would enable their extenion to other districts with similar features.
The report for each district has been presented in two volumes. Volume I contains the socio-economic profile of the district as well as estimates of credit needs and deposit potential at certain aggregative level. The awareness of people about commercial bank and their attitude towards var ious services provided by it have also been dealt in this volume. In Volume II attempts have been made to prepare a district credit plan cover ing an exhaustive list of schomea which are technically feasible and eco nomically viable. In order to facilitate the implementation of the ore dit plan it was also thought essential to breakdown the district plan down to the block level.
