Human Rights are of universal importance because these are the same for all regard less of race, colour, sex, language or reli gion. The book traces not only the historical developments which laid the foundation of contemporary human rights, but also it con tains the complete analytical study of the International Bill of Human Rights. The Uni versal Declaration of Human Rights; the In ternational Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights; the International Cov enant on Civil and Political Rights and the two optional Protocols to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights have also been discussed.
The real value of the book lies in the fact that it contains lucid exposition of the vari ous provisions of the Constitution of India which are aimed at protecting and promot ing the Human rights in India. The judicial activism, which had led to the development of a "new human rights jurisprudence" in India, has been discussed by analysing the latest judicial decisions. Various aspects of prison justice, human rights and judicial wis dom have been discussed. The National Ma chinery for Human Rights Protection i.e., Na tional Human Rights Commission has also been discussed.
