Summary: Almost a quarter of a century has passed since the original Swedish version of this book was written and published. It is perhaps understandable that, when the author is faced with the task of adding some prefatory notes to the present English edition, the thoughts that come to his mind are all in the nature of excuses, explanations, and qualifications. Excuse and explanation are due first because, apart from a few cuts and minor editorial rearrangements, the English edition is an unrevised translation of the original version. To bring it up to date would have meant writing a new book.
