Summary: My personal goal in coauthoring microeconomics: theory and applications was to bring a fine textbook that had always admired to a new generation of students who in habit a new world with new problems. To do that, I have adhered to Edwin Mansfield's pri mary goal: to explain microeconomic theory in the clearest and most interesting way possible while offering a wide range of applications. I have, though, also brought my own objective to the table: to do all of that while clearly emphasizing the few fundamental eco nomic concepts upon which the theory has been constructed. The Eleventh Edition there fore offers a reorganized treatment of strategic market behavior. It expands the previous discussions of asymmetric information. It includes an introductory treatment of auctions, their alternative designs, and their anticipated outcomes.
