Britain and the tide of world affairs

Summary: This book contains the Reith Lectures for 1954. They are printed as they were given, almost without change; discourses written to be listened to. I hope my readers will forgive this and at the same time will find what I have said about Britain's posi tion and policies in the world sufficiently simple, clear and positive to make them ask themselves whether they agree or disagree. I hope too that, if they dis agree, they will go on enquiring until they have reached better results. For I am sure that Britain can be a leader among the nations in the future as she has been in the past. But whether this will happen is not certain. It depends first on the thoroughness with which we think through the effect on our country of the great changes in the world, and secondly on the effort we make to find and apply broad policies which are appropriate to this changed world in which we have to live.
