TA for management making life work

Communication and interaction between individuals is the key substance of the life of an organization. The introduction of the theory of Transactional Analysis by Eric Berne and his eo- workers in the last twenty years has provided a new and simpler framework with which to understand and facilitate change and growth in groups of any size from two to two million.
This manual arises from my experience in science and the management of scientific research for the past twenty-five years and from the cross-fertilization of this with training and experience in the field of Transactional Analysis. In moving from science to industrial management problems I learned that a basic question was: "How do you ask a question?" The answer to this question led to this book.
This book represents testimony to my transition from the world of basic science research in Physics to the world of human relationships. I have been immeasurably enriched by both of these fields and by the people who have helped me to make this
transition. Some of the most significant of these are Morris and Natalie Haimowitz with whom I have learned and grown during the last six years; H. Dudley Wright, who took a chance on me and presented the question: "How do you ask a question?"; Alexey Shukin, who gave me all the flexibility that I needed for my re-education; Bruce Cork, who understood what I was about, and gave his support; Jerry Perlmutter, who offered me the chal- lenge and warmth of his personality; Keith Hoover, who helped me find a place to grow and an ever abundant source of strokes; Elaine Novey, who has lived through these sometimes difficult years of transition with me and has given me her love and help including the editing of this book. I thank all of these and many others including scientific ollaborators, students, patients and consultees from whom I have learned so much.
